Week 1/24 - 1/28: LATIN AMERICA WEEK 1

We are starting our unit on Latin America. This unit will span over the following sections in the book: 24.1, 28.3, 28.4, and 35.1.

MONDAY 1/24
Period 2: Test in class, same homework as other classes; begin notes on Latin America (24.1)
Period 3,4,5, and 7: Begin notes on Latin America (24.1)
Homework: 24-1 Guided Reading

TUESDAY 1/25
Period 2: Begin notes on Latin America (24.1)
Rest of classes: Discuss South American Wars for Independence; Simon Bolivar reading.


In-Class Assignment: Response to Bolivar reading


Military Goals / Tactics:
Bolivar's military goal - defeat the Spanish and gain independence.

  • List military tactics (what does he do?)
  • Is he successful militarily?
Political Goals / Tactics
Bolivar's political goal - unite Gran Colombia
  • Elaborate on political goals
  • What happens? Why does he want this?
  • Is he successful politically?
Homework 1/25: Finish classwork if not complete. Extra credit - watch State of the Union Address and write short response (1-2 paragraphs). Here is a link to the State of the Union Address

WEDNESDAY 1/26
Period 2: See in-class activity for rest of history classes 1/25 (Tuesday)
Pd 2 Homework: Start Latin American Independence chart; complete Haiti, Venezuela, Peru, and Argentina

Period 3,4,5,7 In-Class: Notes on Mexican and Brazilian independence; start Latin American independence chart in class
Homework: Finish Latin American revolution chart (complete information for ALL countries)

Week 1/10-1/14

Here's the basic outline for the week:

Monday: Effects of Imperialism

Homework: 34-3 Guided Reading; This guided reading focuses on independence movements in Africa. The section discusses Ghana, Kenya, Congo (Zaire), Algeria, and Angola. When the worksheet asks you to discuss tactics, focus on how independence is gained. When the worksheet asks you to discuss reforms, focus on what the new leadership did when in power. In the column for problems, discuss any problems that arose.


Tuesday: Independence Movements
Homework: TCN 916-918 (35-2), stop at South Africa

Wednesday: SNOW DAY
Homework: Study Guide

Thursday: Pd. 2,4, & 7: Watch video; Pd. 5: notes on South Africa and Nigeria
Homework: Study Guide -- 13 Key Terms

Friday: Watch review video and answer questions in class.

Monday January 3:
In-Class: notes on Africa & Imperialism
Homework: Guided Reading 27.1

Tuesday January 4: Finish class notes on 27.1 and begin discussing forms of rule.
Written response: Explain why the Europeans wanted to rule areas in Africa. (handed in this response)
Homework: TCN 27.2 pages 690-691

Wednesday January 5: Worksheet on forms of rule.
Homework: TCN 27.2 pages 693-695

Thursday January 6: Nigeria Powerpoint and Discussion of African resistance to European imperialism
Question to think about: How is Nigeria a creation of imperialism?
Homework: None

Friday January 7: African Resistance to Imperialism & African Imperialism map. Use your textbook (pg. 688).
Homework: Finish African Imperialism map.
